WOOF!

We went to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue event this morning to see the dogs up for adoption! We haven't been in this house for a month yet, and we've only had the new gate up for a day. I didn't think this was happening so soon!

Look at that big eared cutie! We did some pre-KAR event research to see what animals would be there and instantly loved Sahara from the pictures and description. She's a 2-ish year old lab/ husky/ sharpei mix and she's just the sweetest!

I can't help but be nervous. I haven't had a dog since I lived at home 10 yrs ago. My BFF had a couple rottweilers living with us briefly, but they weren't mine. They also made me nervous. I remember when my son was a baby and he left me thinking that babies really are like puppies. They both do a lot of eating, sleeping, farting, and noise-making. I'm excited. And nervous.

Her foster parents say she's their favorite foster dog yet. I'd wonder if they say that to every potential new home for every animal, but the process to just get this dog is crazy. Soon we will be interviewed to see if we are the right family for Sahara. Then someone will come over and see where we live to make sure we aren't animal hoarders or something. Then a few more things that I can't remember. Eventually, a few hundred dollars later and we'll be dog owners!! I'm curious to see how she is at our house as opposed to the busy Petco environment this morning. That dog is strong! She dragged me sniffing her way around this store for a while. I sense a new dog-walking workout in my future...

New News!

We bought a house! We close in 2 weeks! I have a post written up about with pictures and everything, and nothing I've had to say is more exciting than that, so I haven't been motivated to blog anything else. I don't want to jinx it blabbering on and on about how much I love it... yet.

My boy turns 5 in just over a week also! I can't believe I am the Mom of a 5 year old. The past half-decade has gone by so fast! He is the most amazing little person I have ever met and I love him more than I could ever put into words.

Instead of a party at home like we usually do, I gave him the options of a party at Chuckie Cheese or BounceLand since our house will be full of boxes for the next couple weeks. Instead he decided -- all on his own -- that he wants to go to "that big fishtank in Chicago" that I told him about a loooong time ago. So Shedd Aquarium here we come! I am too excited. That is so much better than Chuckie Cheese or BounceLand!!

I went to Chicago a lot as a kid. We always went to the Children's Museum or my all-time favorite The Museum of Science and Industry. I don't remember ever going to the aquarium. I remember being 21 and in Chicago all hungover the day after my birthday and wanting to go but we somehow ended up at Dave and Buster's. Fun, but not the aquarium. Im so excited. He is going to love it! My in-laws are going too! Have I mentioned I'm so excited?!

Ok so it's a summer picture... but the weather is so much sweeter then and he hasn't gotten any taller. :)

The Game Masters.

Today I sewed. A lot. I'll post my great quilting success story sometime tomorrow when I get a decent picture!
I took a few breaks from my sewing today to do some fun stuff with my boy. Ok ok, some of it was only fun for me. We took a trip to the fabric store (my third trip there in 24 hours) and later met up with big Dave and Uncle John to go to the arcade.

We all zipped around the race track a couple times...

Uncle Jon proved he is the Ticket Master and King of Big Haul... we got a wooden snake, a squishy jelly frog whose brain pops out when you squeeze him, and a whoopie cushion with those 650 tickets. FYI He used ONE token to get that fat stack. The whoopie cushion was big fun as farts usually are. Mostly for the big kids. Jon and I sat outside a while and made sure every neighbor that walked by thought we were disgusting.

I should've taken a picture of the possessed air hockey table, but alas, I always forget the good stuff. For some reason it only counted about every other of big Dave's goals. It forced the win, 9-2, and it was awesome. A victory is still a victory in my book and I am the still reigning Queen of Air Hockey.
